Allahabad: The Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee (CSMC) has given in-principal approval to extend Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) for two more years.

After the green signal from the Union Finance Ministry and the Planning Commission, the Cabinet will take concrete decision in this regard.

It is worth mentioning that JNNURM was implemented late from the scheduled period in Uttar Pradesh and other states. Keeping this aspect in consideration, the Urban Development Department of the state had pleaded to the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests for extending the time span of JNNURM.

Notably, the first phase of JNNURM is likely to be completed in March 2012 and still 50-60 percent work is yet to be done in Lucknow, Allahabad, Varanasi, Agra and other districts.
