Gwalior: The jawans undergoing special anti-naxal training at the India’s only CRPF Guerilla Training Centre have been forced to learn the tricks without a shooting range at the centre.

Interestingly the centre was inaugurated with much pomp and show by Home minister P Chidambaram but its shooting range is still awaiting approval by the Shivpuri administration.

In absence of a shooting range, 700 jawans have to reach BSF Academy in Tekanpur or army’s firing range in Babina for training.

Though land is already available with CRPF at Bans Kheri in Shivpuri but it is not able to build the shooting range as it has not been approved by the Shivpuri administration.

Actually the construction of the shooting range requires fulfilling certain safety norms so that the bullets shot by the jawans do not hit people near the site. Until the safety of the people is ensured, the administration would not allow the setting of the shooting range.

However, the CRPF has been building a high wall around the centre which will reduce chances of a bullet or bombshell escaping the site.

A CRPF official said, “The administration has said that a decision will soon be taken in this regard and the jawans will soon be able to undergo training at the shooting range inside the centre.”
