Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa will leave for Delhi on Saturday to attend the Chief Ministers' meeting on NCTC, to be chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Faced with stiff opposition from several Chief Ministers, including UPA ally Mamata Banerjee, the Centre has convened a meeting on May 5 to discuss exclusively the proposed National Counter Terrorism Centre.

Jayalalithaa, along with other non-Congress Chief Ministers - Odisha's Naveen Patnaik, Gujarat's Narendra Modi, West Bengal's Mamata Banerjee and Bihar's Nitish Kumar – had objected to certain provisions of the NCTC alleging that the Centre was trying to hurt the federal structure of the country and curb states' powers.

The Home Ministry has already circulated the agenda papers for the May 5 meeting, where it would explain the genesis, objectives, structure and powers of the NCTC.

After attending the May 5 meeting, Jayalalithaa will return to Chennai the same evening.
