Hyderabad: Political corridors are abuzz with speculation that Rampur MP Jayaprada may join the Congress after her meeting with party President Sonia Gandhi last week.

Earlier, Jayaprada had hinted that she was going to return to Andhra Pradesh politics. She also expressed her desire to contest from Rajahmundry Lok Sabha seat in the state.

Commenting on the issue, local Congress MP V Arun Kumar said that he will honour the party’s decision. I will work for ensuring victory of party candidate, added Kumar.

Jayaprada began her political career in the mid-1990s in the Telugu Desam Party (TDP). She was elected to the Upper House in 1996 on TDP ticket.

Jayaprada, however, quit the TDP and joined the Samajwadi Party ahead of the 2004 general elections and shifted base to UP.

She was elected to Lok Sabha twice from Rampur but subsequently walked out of the SP along with Amar Singh.
