Ajay Chautala, MLA and senior leader of opposition Indian National Lok Dal, of which former Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala is the President, said they will file an appeal against the verdict.
"As soon as we get the copy of the verdict and after studying the judgment, we will challenge it before a higher court," Ajay, who is younger son of five-time former Chief Minister and Uchana Kalan MLA OP Chautala, told reporters here.
He denied that his father and brother committed anything illegal in recruitment of Junior Basic Teachers (JBT) in the state in 1999-2000, saying there was "nothing related to corruption" in the matter.
"The matter is not related to corruption. No money had exchanged hands in the issue. We had appointed teachers on merit. Chaudhry Om Prakash Chautala, (Dabwali MLA) Ajay Singh Chautala and (Ladwa MLA) Sher Singh Badshami will prove they are innocent. The truth will soon come out and truth will prevail," Ajay said after the Delhi court pronounced its judgement on Wednesday, convicting his father, brother and 53 others in the case.
After the court pronounced its judgment, all the convicts were taken into judicial custody. The court has fixed January 22 for pronouncing the quantum of sentence.
