This move can be seen as a desperate attempt by the JD (U) to oppose Bharatiya Janata Party’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, who is also contesting elections from this spiritual city.

JD (U) national spokesperson KC Tyagi reportedly said that his party will extend its support to AAP and Kejriwal in Varanasi.

He added that his party leaders have already spoken to senior AAP members Manish Sisodia and Ashutosh over this matter.

“We have spoken to Ashutosh and Manish Sisodia about this,” Tyagi said.

JD (U)’s support to Kejriwal may work as shot in the arm for the AAP, which is working hard to recreate the magic it produced in Delhi on a national front.

The JD (U)’s move to support Kejriwal in the Varanasi Lok Sabha constituency can have an interesting outcome on the result in this prestigious seat.

The JD (U) broke its ties with BJP early this year in protest against the elevation of Modi as the prime ministerial candidate, bringing to an end a 17-year-old alliance.
