New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday ordered perjury prosecution of Bollywood actor Shayan Munshi and ballistic expert PS Manocha for turning hostile during their deposition in connection with Jessica Lal murder case.

The High Court absolved 17 other witnesses from the charge of giving false evidence during their deposition in the trial. The HC also directed its Registrar General to file a complaint against Munshi and Manocha.

"The Registrar General of this court to file a complaint before the competent court having jurisdiction to consider and take action under section 340 of CrPC against the respondents (Munshi and Manocha)," the HC said.

The bench comprising Justices S Ravindra Bhat and GP Mittal pronounced its decision on Wednesday. The High Court in December 2006 had taken suo motu cognizance of the case questioning the prosecution as to how all the witnesses took somersault during the trial. It had reserved its order on May 4, 2011, after hearing arguments of the police and the witnesses who had turned hostile.

Jessica was shot dead in April 1999 by Manu Sharma, son of veteran Congress leader Vinod Sharma, after she refused to serve a drink to him at a late night party at socialite Bina Ramani's restaurant Tamarind Court in South Delhi. The High Court, which reversed trial court's verdict on December 18, 2006, awarded life imprisonment to Manu Sharma.
