Dhubri (Assam): Jewellery worth more than Rs 5 lakh was looted by miscreants from a temple in Assam's Dhubri district during curfew hours, police said on Wednesday.
The idol of the temple diety Goddess Kali was not damaged but the jewellery adorning it was removed along with a bell-metal idol of Lord Krishna from the premises late on Wednesday night while the curfew imposed since the violence between Bodos and migrants was on, the police said.
The miscreants entered through the rear gate and broke open the main door of the temple at Bilasipara.
Police have launched a massive search in the district to nab the miscreants.
A similar incident occurred in the town last month when miscreants looted more than Rs 6 lakh from another Kali Temple on R K Mission Road.
