New Delhi: The possibility of re-polling for two Rajya Sabha seats may change the political equation in the state. Even though there is no official announcement of any such move but the BJP has already started facing the pressure of fielding its candidate for the polls.

In the given situation, one faction of the BJP is of view that the party should field its own candidate rather than expanding support to the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM). However, it would be difficult for the BJP to do so as it has already announced the support to JMM candidate.

Recently, the BJP has recovered from the crisis arising out of extending support to independent candidate Anshuman Mishra in the RS polls. The saffron party is in under tremendous pressure to renew the tenure of SS Ahuliwallia whose term comes to an end on April 2.

BJP MPs are mounting pressure to field Ahluwalia with the support of JMM. It needs to be mentioned that the BJP has 17 MLAs in 80-member House. In order to get its candidate elected in the RS polls, the BJP will require first priority of 27 voters.

The JMM fielded its candidate for the RS polls as there was no consensus on alliance candidate. Following which, the BJP decided to extend its support to independent candidate Anshuman Mishra. The move created uproar in the BJP parliamentary party meet.

Not missing a chance, the JMM had managed to get BJP support in favour of its candidate. However, a senior BJP leader said, “After extending support to the JMM candidate, it would be improper to withdraw it. This will affect the collation government.”
