Ranchi: Despite the Supreme Court’s directive to the Jharkhand government to ensure safety of people during winters, the state administration could not ensure adequate facilities to check the rising death toll.

According to reports, while thirteen people died on Friday, four more succumbed to cold on Saturday.

The administrative arrangements made in districts are inadequate to fight against cold. The administration has neither distributed a single blanket nor took measures to arrange fire to help poor save them from biting cold.

The minimum temperature in Ranchi hovers around 2.5 degree.

In Garhwa, Palamu and Lohardaga districts, the minimum temperature has dipped to 5 degree.

In Chatra district, three people including one tribal woman died in last 24 hours.

In Simaria, the district administration has given Rs 10,000 cash and 35kg foodgrains to next of kin of the deceased, Sunti Birhorin.

In Lavalong, Arjun Ganjhu’s eight-year-old daughter Ravita Kumari and 50-year-old Mahavir Ram of Tikar village became the latest victim of the cold.

62-year-old woman died in Jamshedpur has been identified as Sujata.
