Ranchi: After getting nod from the Centre, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday arrested former Jharkhand health Secretary Siyaram Prasad Sinha for his alleged involvement in multi-crore health rip-off.

After his arrest, he was taken to CBI headquarters for interrogation at 1 pm. He was produced before the CBI court and was sent to 14-day judicial custody in Birsa Munda Central Jail. Now plans are afoot to take Sinha in remand for interrogation.

CBI can submit a chargesheet with the court after investigating various points related to the case.

Sinha is accused of purchasing medicines at higher price and also purchasing those medicines which were not required either.

 The CBI team is also expediting its investigation against former Health Secretary Dr Pradeep Kumar. The investigation is expected to be over in next 15 days, after it gets a nod from centre .After this, Dr Kumar too may be arrested.

It was revealed that between 2007 and 2009, several trucks loaded with medicines allotted under National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) were brought to the health centres. The CBI investigation revealed that the medicines brought to health centres were not required, and their total worth exceeded Rs 350 crore.

Apart from Sinha and Dr Kumar, Former Reproductive and Child Health (RCH) office bearer Dr Vijay Narayan Singh, State Drug Controller Madan Mohan Prasad, former state accounts manager Pradyot Mukherjee are main accused in the crime.

Raids conducted at former minister’s residence

A four-member CBI team conducted raid at the residence of Former Health Minister Bhanu Pratap Shahi in Gadwa district on Friday.

The raid continued for five hours. Before the CBI team could reach, Shahi had left for his paternal village Batoo.

CBI also questioned Shahi’s official bodyguards, Anil Chaubey, Manoj Pahadia and his personal assistant. The investigating team recovered some important documents from Shahi’s residence.
