Jamshedpur: The Jharkhand government would like to felicitate world cup winning Team India captain M S Dhoni as well as medallists of 34th National Games, Deputy Chief Minister Sudesh Mahto has said.

"We wish to felicitate national game medal winners as well as Team India Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who led the country to World Cup victory," Mahto said.

To a query whether Dhoni will be available for the function in view of the current series in England, Mahto, who also looks after Sports department, merely said the dates have not been finalised but the function will be held soon.

"We will honour all the sportspersons whoever won medals for Jharkhand at the Games held in the month of February last,"

Mahto said when asked whether sportspersons from other states, having represented Jharkhand in the national games, will also be honoured.

The Deputy Director (Sports) Sarojini Lakra said a list of medal winners had been sought from all respective sports association in the state about a fortnight ago.

The secretary of Jharkhand Archery Association (JAA), L Murthy said JAA have already sent the list of 20 archers (men and women), who had won medals for the state in the games.

Former Olympian Harbhajan Singh, the only Indian sportsman having represented the country in two sports disciplines (Handball and Basketball) at international level including Moscow Olympics, suggested the state felicitate the medal winner on the birth anniversary of Dhyan Chand on August 29, which is being marked as National Sports Day.

The state government had deferred the felicitation function a couple of times due to non-availability of Dhoni.

Asked if Jharkhand would bid for the South Asian Federation (SAF) Games next year, Mahto said "we are ready to host it and already sent a proposal to the Centre."

Mahto was in the steel city to take part in foundation stone laying ceremony of Adityapur-Kandra road in Saraikela-Kharswan district.
