Ranchi: Jharkhand Tourism Minister Bimla Pradhan on Tuesday expressed hope that the new Union Tourism Minister K Chiranjeevi would focus on Jharkhand, which has enormous potential to become tourist destination and make Itkhori into a popular Buddhist centre.
    
"We hope he will help promote the tourism sector in the state, which has many tourist spots. We have been developing various tourist spots with our limited budget," Pradhan.
    
"Particularly, the latest findings of Buddhist sculptures and other 8th and 9th century objects by the Archeological Survey of India at Itkhori in Chatra district has given an opportunity to attract foreign tourists to Jharkhand," she said.
    
She pointed out on the ongoing road construction from Patna to Dobhi connecting Bodhgaya in Bihar could extended to Itkhori to draw tourists into Jharkhand as well.
    
When contacted, Superintending Archaeologist (Ranchi Circle) N G Nikoshey said four dilapidated Buddha stupas and various artefacts, fragmented Buddha panels and potteries dated to Pala period from 9th to 10th century AD were found during excavation at Itkhori during the year.
