Ranchi: The Election Commission will issue fresh notification on April 16 for the re-poll to the two Rajya Sabha seats from Jharkhand. The biennial election will be held on April 2while counting will be done on May 3.

It is worth mentioning that the Commission had cancelled the biennial elections held on March 30 in the state due to misuse of money and horse trading.

Jharkhand Vikas Morcha president Babulal Marandi suggested that one candidate of the party who will be the unanimous choice can reach Upper House with the support of 13 Congress MLAs, 11 JVM MLAs and 5 legislators of the RJD.

Both the treasury benches and the opposition will have to ensure that the Upper House elections should be free and fare in the state said Marandi. The JVM chief suggested several names including eminent journalist Balbir Dutta and former DGP Niyaz Ahmed as RS candidates to the Congress.

Prominent industrialists Pradip Sonthalia and Surendra Kumar Sinha are the probable candidates from Koylanchal region. The Opposition is making all out efforts to select one unanimous candidate for RS polls.

Jharkhand Mukti Morcha president Shibu Soren has convened a meeting of core committee including party MLAs on Monday to select the candidate for Upper House polls. The party sources said that the candidate has already been selected. Only official announcement is yet to be made.
