Dumka (Jharkhand): The Congress on Monday demanded "a reply" from the state government in the wake of a 41-year-old woman once again alleging that she is the 'wife' of Agriculture Minister Satyanand Jha.

Devi, a para-teacher (contractual teacher), had in September last year raised the issue before quickly retracting after the minister vehemently denied the allegations then.

However, she once again appeared at New Bandhpara in Jharkhand on August 18 and repeated her allegations before the local media that she had been separated from her former husband in 1994 and 'married' Jha a few years later and had a four-year-old son from the 'second marriage'.

The Congress activists burnt the effigy of Jha during the day and demanded his resignation.

"We would like a reply from the Arjun Munda government on Soni Devi’s claim that she had married the minister and is ready for a DNA test of her boy. The government should take it seriously as the allegations are made against a cabinet minister. The people want to know the truth," Congress leader and former deputy chief minister Stephan Marandi told reporters in Jharkhand.
