The incident took place when the cops were returning to the police station from an interior area in the district.

Maoists have called for boycott of the Lok Sabha polls in different parts of Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha and Chhattisgarh.

According to reports, Khunti is ranked the topmost Naxal-affected district in the country. Last year, 34 civilians and security officials were killed in Naxal ambush in the district.

The Ministry of Home Affairs had earlier this month written to the Naxal-affected states warning them of probable attempts by the red-ultras to disrupt the Lok Sabha elections.

Security forces are fully geared up to conduct the Lok Sabha polls peacefully, particularly in Maoist-affected districts, in Jharkhand.

13 districts in Jharkhand have been identified by the Centre as ‘highly sensitive’ for Maoist activities.
