Ranchi: Jharkhand, one of the leading producers of silk in the country, is planning to set up "Silk Parks" in the state to give a boost to the industry and improve the financial condition of cultivators.

The proposed parks will come up at North and South Chhotanagpur regions, official sources said here, adding that special thrust will be given on popularising them in international markets to increase foreign currency earnings.

At these parks, cultivators will be provided with the facility of modern technological inputs and marketing of their products to enhance their income per produce.

Furthermore, the government will also train at least one lakh villagers with various aspects of silk cultivation.

Farming of Mulberry leaves, a favourite feed of silkworms, will be promoted and various other schemes will be embarked upon to achieve a target of 1500 metric tonnes of raw silk production fixed for coming years.

The government is also mulling to train around one lakh villagers in silk cultivation.
