"Rank and file of our party should gear up for the Assembly polls to be held this year," state tourism minister Gulam Ahmed Mir told party workers, who had gathered to discuss the post-Lok Sabha poll situation in Anantnag district on Sunday.
Amid demands from workers to go alone in the Assembly polls, Mir said that they should start strengthening their base, hold meetings and reach out to the people with the achievements of the Congress in the state.
The Assembly polls are due in the state later this year and the condition of Sonia Gandhi-led party is believed to be in tatters of sorts after suffering one of the worst defeats in the history of general elections in the country.

The party was reduced to a meager 44 seats which is 10 short of the required number to sit in Opposition.
