Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Wednesday issued notices to the National Hydel Power Corporation (NHPC) and Power Development Corporation (PDC) regarding depositing of Rs 711 crore for using water in their power projects in the state.

The water usage bills are asked to be cleared within 15 days or else the corporations will be charged with additional interests on the amount. The bills have been issued as per the J&K Water Resources Act-2010.

Public Health Engineering, Irrigation and Flood Control Minister Taj Mohiuddin said that the organizations need to clear the bills by the stipulated time span or else the administration will take legal actions.

NHPC has been asked to deposit Rs 411.88 crore for the water usage between April 2011 and September 30, 2011. While PDC has to clear Rs 299.278 crore for water usage between January 2011 and September 30, 2011.

The hydel projects against which the bills have been issued include Salal Hydel Project, Dul Hasti Hydel Project, Uri Power Station Gingal and Sewa Hydel run by the NHPC.

While the PDC-run hydel projects for which the bills have been released include old Ganderbal hydel project, Upper Sindh Phase-I, Upper Sindh Phase-II, Lower Jehlum Hydel Project and Baglihar Hydel Project.
