Jammu: Ahead of the annual Amarnath yatra, the Jammu and Kashmir police have set up information-cum announcement booth on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in Ramban district of the state in order to rationalize traffic rules, maintaining vigilance and educating drivers about traffic rules.

"The police started an announcement booth at Ramban bus stand on the direction of higher quarters", said a senior police officer.

It’s said that the prime motive of setting up this booth is to streamline traffic and make the drivers and passengers aware regarding traffic rules including ill-effects of overloading, rash and negligent driving and over-speeding, which could be fatal.

This step has been taken ahead of the annual Amarnath pilgrimage which is scheduled to commence from June 28 this year.

The drivers plying on all link roads and highway from Ramban Bus Stand have particularly been briefed to adhere to traffic rules and regulations to reduce the rate of accidents, the police officer said.

Moreover, shopkeepers and hawkers at bus stands have also been advised through this police booth to inform the police regarding any abandoned vehicles and goods in their area as a security measure, he added.

The booth will function round the clock for the convenience of the people, he added.
