Srinagar: Police on Sunday took Separatist organization Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front chairman Yasin Malik and his associates  into custody while they were on their way to offer condolence to the family of Yasir Ahmed Vani who died after being hit by Army vehicle on Saturday.

The arrest was made in Pampore town in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir.

“We got a tip off that Malik and his supporters are going to address people. After the child died, there has been tense atmosphere and his address could have worsened the situation.” Ashfaq Ahmed, police officer said.

Malik engaged in an argument with the police while they tried to stop his vehicle from moving towards the deceased family.

Meanwhile, protests against the death of the seven-year old cyclist continue in Aanchidora and KP Road area in Anantnag district.

To control the situation, more security personnel have been deployed in the areas.
