Chandigarh: In a move to woo voters in the face of forthcoming Punjab Assembly elections, Akali-BJP led government has showered goodies for people. Jobs, free land and many more, the people of the state have reason to smile.

The state Cabinet has given green signal for sanctioning permanent jobs to 132 contract lecturers, librarian, superintendent of technical education department and 8951 contract workers (clerk, driver, pump operator, cleaning workers and sewer man) of local government department.

With the recommendations of 5th commission, elders will get 10 to 55 percent hike in their old age allowance. People of age group of 70 have also been included into this scheme.

The government has decided to provide ownership of land to landless farm laboures. The ruling dispensation will dole out plots among homeless villagers and has earmarked Rs10 crore for Khalsa heritage annually.
