Los Angeles: Oscar-winning actress Jodie Foster's estranged father Lucius has been ordered to serve five years in jail after being involved in a property scam.
The 89-year-old was found guilty on 30 counts of grand theft and operating without a contractor's license on December 7.
He had allegedly offered to build 20 homes and took USD 130,000 in down payments from prospective buyers in the San Fernando Valley area of California, before pocketing the cash when the construction work fell through.
He was due to be sentenced on December 8, but Lucius failed to show up after reportedly missing a bus and sentence was postponed until December 9.
Lucius, who was facing a maximum of 25 years in jail, had maintained his innocence throughout the trial insisting he had always vowed to follow through with the construction plans.
A restitution hearing has now been set for February 23 next year.
