New Delhi: AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh, best known for his penchant for controversial statements, has been removed from his post as Congress-in-charge of Uttar Pradesh and Assam on Tuesday. According to the sources, the Congress has replaced him with senior leader B K Hariprasad, another party general secretary.

It is believed that Singh was removed from the affairs of the two key states due to his erratic behavior. Though, Digvijay is known for his close proximity with Rahul Gandhi but his recent clamour demanding decisive responsibility for Rahul Gandhi in the party seems to be the immediate reason for his removal.

Digvijay Singh’s many statements caused a lot of embarrassment for the party and on some occasions party had asked Singh to be cautious while making statements. The party had also made it clear that Singh was not an official spokesperson of the party so his statement should not be considered as the party’s stand on a particular issue.
