Kolkata: The Maoists in Jungal Mahal, West Bengal, are willing to have dialogue with government on the condition of ceasefire, which was announced by a citizen committee that has been set up for holding talks with various organizations of the ultra Left.

Sujat Bhadra, head of the committee, submitted his report after meeting Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in the Writers’ Building. While talking to mediapersons here on Saturday, Bhadra said the CM had already instructed to hold talks with the Maoists in order to restore peace in the area.

The members of the committee had visited the area and had met both the armed and non-armed groups of the Maoists. A few of them had objected to the proposal of surrendering arms and holding peace talks with the government.

Even though they had denied surrendering weapons, they agreed not to use weapons (ceasefire) during the talks.

The committee also appraised the government of the conditions made by the non-armed group.
