Patna: The efforts of the Bihar government to facilitate ‘speedy trials’ and bring perpetrators to book seem to be bearing fruitful results.

It took just 11 days for the Banka police to facilitate punishment to three men who were arrested under the Arms Act. This is possibly the first incident where the criminals were brought to book in such a short span of time.

On January 12, the Banka police had arrested three men from Katoria who were in possession of illegal arms. The chargesheet in this regard was filed on January 14.

On January 16 the charges were framed and sentence was awarded to the accused on January 23. The court pronounced three years of imprisonment to the culprits and also imposed a fine of Rs 1000 each.

The arrested men included Sammit Kumar Shah of Sultanganj, Abhay Mandal of Haveli Khadagpur, Abhay Singh of Khadagpur of West Bengal.

DGP Abhayanand said, “These miscreants were in the possession of country made revolvers and cartridges”. He further said that the incident will set an example for the entire police force in Bihar.
