Justice Rohini’s appointed was approved by President Pranab Mukherjee on Friday.

The Delhi High Court as of now has nine women judges out of a strength of 40.

Justice Rohini’s elevation as the Chief Justice of Delhi High Court comes at a time when law and order issues and safety for women continue to be a concern in India.

The Delhi High Court Bar Association has welcomed the appointment, saying the move will encourage women to take up law as a career and also give a boost to women lawyers.

Justice Rohini was born in 1955 in Visakhapatnam. She studied science at the Osmania University and law at Andhra University College of Law, Visakhapatnam.
