New Delhi:  In the most sensational revelation related to the Commonwealth games, it has been found that Suresh Kalmadi, was made the Chairman of the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee in 2004 superseding the then Sports and Youth Affairs Minister, late Sunil Dutt.

A letter in possession of Dainik Jagran clearly shows that Suresh Kalmadi’s selection was in complete violation of the decision taken on the issue by a GoM headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The GoM, at its meeting held on October 25, 2004, had finalized the name of the then Sports and Youth Affairs Minister, late Sunil Dutt, to head the Games Organising Committee. When the minutes of the meeting reached Dutt's office on November 10, 2004, it, however, had Kalmadi’s name.

Sunil Dutt wrote a letter to the Prime Minister expressing his displeasure over the entire affair. In his letter dated November 14, 2004, Dutt observed that he was travelling abroad in connection with a fund collection drive for the cancer hospital run by a trust floated by him when he got the news that Kalmadi, who is also the president of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), had been appointed as the chairman of the CWG Organising Committee. The contents of Dutt's letter were accessed by Dainik Jagran.
