New Delhi: The Tihar Jail has taken some load off the hands of the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee by purchasing 50 LCD TV sets from the latter. These comes as a good news to the jail inmates as well who can now enjoy watching programmes on glittering screens of digital TV sets in place of normal television sets.

However, no payments have been made to the CWG OC in lieu of the LCD TV sets.

It is a sheer coincidence that people like former CWG OC chief Suresh Kalmadi, including several Ministers, bureaucrats and top honchos of private companies accused in the 2G scam are locked inside the jail.

The jail, which has been home to a number of VIPs for the last few months, has witnessed the upliftment of the infrastructure within. According to the Tihar jail authorities, jail administration had earlier placed a request before the CWG Organizing Committee for purchasing these LCD monitors.

There are nine central jails in the country including Tihar. These jails have 1085 television sets. But these are proving insufficient for the large number of inmates lodged in the jails.

According to the jail authorities, VIPs are already availing the service of a TV set in their cells.

In this context DIG, Tihar jail Aryan Sharma said, “We had requested for the transfer of LCD monitors three months back. Out of which 50 sets have already been provided to the jail till date.”

LCD monitors provided by the Organizing Committee will be now placed in the cells and halls. Some of the halls are large where more than one monitor will be placed.
