New Delhi: Amid the tight security, the by-poll for Kalyanpur assembly constituency (Reserve) in Bihar began at 7 am on a dull note. Kalyanpur assembly constituency was fell vacated due to sudden death of Ram Sevak Hazari in October last year.

The ruling JD (U) has fielded Manju Kumari, who is in direct fight with LJP-RJD alliance’s Rekha Devi. The Congress candidate Anita Ram is striving hard to make the fight triangular.

In order to ensure victory of JD (U)-BJP alliance in Kalyanpur by-poll, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi launched massive campaign. Several senior ministers were also dispatched to canvass for the JD (U) candidate.

LJP president Ram Vilas Paswan and RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav also wooed the voters in favour of Rekha Devi.

Interestingly, the JD (U) stormed to power in 2010 by winning 115 seats, while the RJD managed to bag 22 seats. The LJP had won 3 seats in 243-member Bihar assembly.
