New Delhi: Kalyan Singh's Rashtriya Jankranti Party (RJP) on Monday formally announced its merger with BJP at a mega rally held in Lucknow.

This is the second time when Kalyan returns back to the saffron party. Earlier, Singh had returned to the BJP prior to 2004 Lok Sabha elections after his exit from the party in December 1999.

Kalyan Singh, a one-time poster boy of the saffron party in Uttar Pradesh, said he has a formula for strengthening the BJP and will take the party to new heights in the state.

Singh, who served twice as Chief Minister in the BJP government (1991-92 and 1997-99), said that the merger of RJP in BJP will unite nationalist forces.

In 2009 Lok Sabha elections, Kalyan was declared BJP's Lok Sabha candidate from Etah, but he contested the election as an Independent after quitting the saffron party and won.
