Kanpur:  Police on Wednesday arrested the deputy superintendent of police, who was placed under suspension for his alleged role in rape and sexual exploitation of a teenage daughter of an IAF officer in Kanpur.

Amarjit Singh Shahi, who was on his way to Kanpur from Lucknow, was arrested and produced before a local court, which remanded him in judicial custody for 14 days, said J N Singh, circle officer of Cantt Police station.

A local court had issued a non-bailable warrant against Shahi on April 16, following a complaint lodged in Kanpur last month in which victim's father Captain M S Vidyarthi had alleged that Shahi during his posting in Kanpur had lured and sexually exploited his daughter.

The girl had also deposed before the Magistrate after which the police officer was suspended, sources said. Father of the victim had organised a sit-in protest with his daughter to press his demand for legal action against Shahi.

Shahi, a DSP rank officer, was posted in Kanpur when he allegedly had a "love affair" with the 17-year-old girl.
