Mumbai: Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor has put her weight behind the cause of breast cancer and will be flagging-off the Pinkathon 2012 run scheduled to take place in here on December 16.

Pinkathon 2012 is a women's run associated with the Women's Cancer Initiative to raise awareness about breast cancer, being conducted for the first time in Mumbai in 3 categories – 10 km, 5 km and 3 km.

"I think it is very important for women to know about breast cancer, that if detected early it's extremely curable and there is a life beyond that. As a woman, I am really proud of being a part of this initiative and I hope to see all women out there on the 16th," Karisma said in a statement.

More than 1500 women of Mumbai have already registered and confirmed to run to raise funds for breast cancer patients.

Faces from the entertainment industry like VJ Anusha Dandekar, actress Tara Sharma and model-actress Lisa Haydon have pledged to be a part of the run.
