New Delhi: The National Human Rights Commission on Wednesday issued notice to the Haryana Education Department government and Karnal SP seeking their reply within four-week on the incident in which a six-year-old Pankaj Singh allegedly died of the shock after he was locked up in his school.

The notice was sent to the Principal Secretary of the state Education Department and Superintendent of Police, Karnal.

The notice was issued after the commission took cognizance of a media report stating that Pankaj Singh was locked up in a dark room to reprimand him for his negligence on December 27. After family member’s intervention he was released from the school on the same day but later fainted and was admitted to PGI hospital in Rohtak. He was discharged on February 11, but passed away the next day.

The family reported the matter to the police on February 20.
