Bangalore: The Congress government in Karnataka on Friday announced loans up to Rs two lakh at zero percent interest rate for the farmers. It also enhanced the creamy layer limit of Backward Classes by Rs 1 lakh.

Presenting the "revised" 2013-14 budget in the Legislative Assembly, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said it would be at the interest rate of 1 percent for Rs two lakh to Rs three lakh from cooperative institutions.

Earlier, short-term loan up to Rs 1 lakh was provided at zero percent interest and at one percent interest from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 3 lakh.

"Caste wise, social and education survey of all castes will be undertaken through Permanent Backward Classes Commission," the Chief Minister said.

The Chief Minister also announced reduction of sales tax on diesel from 16.75 percent to 15.65 percent. "With this tax reduction at current prices, the price of diesel would come down by 51 paise per litre at Bangalore", he said.
