"The Srinagar-Jammu highway is still closed as work to clear the snow is in progress," a traffic official said. A decision on reopening the road would be taken only after the snow has been removed from the road, he added.

The 294-km stretch, the only all-weather road link between Kashmir and the rest of the country, was closed on Wednesday following snowfall across the Valley.

Air traffic remained suspended but an official at Srinagar Airport said that the runway had been cleared and flights were expected to arrive in the afternoon.
