Los Angeles: Katie Holmes, who was under intense media scrutiny after her divorce from Tom Cruise, thanks her close bond with her family for helping her get through such challenging times.

Holmes, 33, blindsided Cruise by announcing her divorce from Cruise in June this year, reported E! online.

"I have these moments where what's going on in my life is unbelievable, and you have to tell everyone to figure out how to respond. My siblings and I are always on the phone saying: 'Oh my God, what do you think? What does Mom think? What does Dad think?' And then you act accordingly," she said.

Holmes is busy in promoting her upcoming Broadway play, 'Dead Accounts' and about her character she says she definitely identifies with.

"I still think of myself as Midwestern. I mean, I've had box wine...It's good. And it's a lot easier to open. I'm like Lorna (my character) in that my values guide me in an
instinctual way, like, 'That feels weird' or 'I better send a thank you'."
