New York: Pop star Katy Perry has beaten Justin Timberlake and Lady Gaga to become the second artiste after Michael Jackson to make it to the top of US charts with her latest single Last Friday Night.

The singer will have to wait till next week to see whether she can break the record set by Michael Jackson with his album ‘Bad’. Gaga and Timberlake's four tunes from a single album had landed at No 1 on the chart.

The Firework singer, who has nine nominations for the MTV Video Music Awards, most recently took the top spot in the pop songs chart with single Last Friday Night (TGIF), from album Teenage Dream and the track looks likely to do the same in the Hot 100 listings.

The 26-year-old singer is also rumoured to be pushing for a sixth single from her LP, with the upbeat Peacock track touted as a possible future release.
