Kejriwal boarded the Shiv Ganga Express along with his parents and select party activists as well as a couple of Delhi Police personnel on Monday evening.

Kejriwal is expected to spend majority of his time in Varanasi until the constituency goes to polls on May 12, the last day of the 10-phase Lok Sabha elections.

Kejriwal, who is contesting against Modi and Congress leader Ajai Rai in Varanasi, is expected to spend time in villages of this constituency and have discussions with members of various communities.

Kejriwal, who had earlier admitted that his decision to resign as the Delhi Chief Minister was ill timed as it gave the impression that he was running away from responsibility, is being welcomed in Varanasi with posters describing him as 'Delhi deserter'.

The AAP chief had earlier said there was no trace of Modi wave in the country and appealed to the people to bring an end to the era of ‘corruption and VIP culture’ of UPA and NDA governments.

“There is no Modi wave in the country. The mission of AAP is to weed out corruption from the country as the people are fed up from misrule of UPA and NDA governments," he had said while addressing a road show on the last day of his Punjab tour.

Since Quami Ekta Dal leader Mukhtar Ansari has withdrawn from the electoral race, a popular view is that that there may be mass voting by the Muslims of the constituency in favour of Kejriwal.

April 24 is the last date for filing nomination in Varanasi. The last date for withdrawal of nomination is April 28.
