The court also directed the state to give details of facilities in the schools in the tribal areas.
The directions in this regard were issued by a division bench comprising Chief Justice Manjula Chellur and Justice PR Ramachandra Menon.
The suo motu proceedings were launched while considering letters sent by one Mahesh Ramakrishnan and students of government tribal school, Echippara, Thrissur complaining lack of school for tribal chidlren and plantation workers.
They complained the present lower primary school was built in 1958. The next school was 14 km away. Even though many applications were given to government, no action was taken, they added.
