Kolkata: Several key personalities of West Bengal will skip the second edition of industry summit, ‘Bengal Leads’ starting from Tuesday at the industrial port town of Haldia.

Chairman of ITC Y C Deveshwar was among the top luminaries who would not be able to attend the meet.

“Deveshwar is in Delhi to attend the CII-ITC event today. He is unlikely to attend the Bengal Leads meet tomorrow,” a spokesperson of the company said.

Similar is the case for Ambuja Realty chairman Harsh Neotia, a popular face in the state’s industry circles.

“I am at present studying at the Harvard,” Neotia said when asked whether he was attending the meet.

Vice-chairman of leading infrastructure financing company Srei BNP and national vice-president of Assocham Sunil Kanoria also expressed his inability to attend the meet.

“I am now in Europe on an urgent work,” Kanoria said.

Assocham had been entrusted by the state government to handle the MSME sector programmes at the three-day summit.

Among those who expressed willingness to attend was Sanjay Budhia, chairman of Kolkata-based Patton group.

“I will definitely attend the meet. I will do anything which will help the state to develop industrially,” he said.

On being contacted, a person at Sanjiv Goenka’s office, said “as of now, he is going to attend the meet.”

The West Bengal government under the Chief Ministership of Mamata Banerjee has started the ‘Bengal Leads’ industry meet to showcase the state’s potential. Banerjee would inaugurate the meet.
