Amritsar: Khalsa College in Amritsar has decided to convert 200 acres of its farmland into use for organic farming.

The expert from the college's Agriculture department and Punjab Agriculture department said that the organic way of farming was a welcome step as the overuse of chemicals had been playing havoc with the fertile lands in state.

"Because of farmers using pesticides, soil health and underground water has been affected. The traditional ways of using bio-gas manure, farm yard manure and organic sprays will be used," KCGC joint secretary (Agriculture) Ajmer Singh Heir said.

" Organic farming is being adopted world over as we are seeing bad effects of chemicals' use in agriculture," he said.
