Taking serious note of the incident, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) asked the state government to explain the circumstances leading to the jail break and the measures taken to nab the prisoners who were involved in the prison break, official sources said.

Seven suspected SIMI activists escape from Khandwa jail

The prisoners who fled from Khandwa district jail early on Tuesday are -- Amjad, Aslam, Zakir, Mehboob (all from Khandwa), Ejazuddin (of Narsinh Yard, Kareli), Abu Faizal (Juhu), Aabid Mirza (of Oont Kuwan, Hatampura, Khandwa).

However, one of them - Aabid Mirza - was caught later. The six prisoners, who are still at large, are allegedly hardcore activists of Student Islamic Movement of India (SIMI)

SIMI is a banned organization in the country and many of its top leaders are in various jails.
