Ludhiana: The organisers on Thursday suspended the ox-cart event races at the mega ‘Rural Olympics’ carnival in Kila Raipur village after receiving the government notification banning the use of bulls for sporting purpose.

As a result, no bullock cart races were held on the first day of the sporting extravaganza. This is the first time in the history of the Kila Raipur carnival that the sports lovers will not witness the high adrenaline races involving bulls.

However, after receiving the government direction, the organizers tried to convince the local authorities but finally had to suspend the races owing to tremendous pressure on them to stop the races at any cost.

The head of organizing committee GS Grewal said, “We have filed a writ petition in the High Court, demanding that they be allowed to hold bullock cart races.

Slamming the decision of government for banning the race, chairman of bullock cart owners association, Jasbir Singh Bittu said, “We are against the decision of government. This is a game, where people throughout the district and villages participate. We do not mete any oppression to the bulls.”
