New Delhi: At a time when people from all walks of life are coming together to uproot the inhuman practice of killing girls in the name of honour, a civil servant is allegedly found advocating the practice on camera.

The shocking incident has come into light in Uttar Pradesh where an IPS officer has advised a man (whose daughter has reportedly eloped) to kill her or commit suicide to safeguard his honour.

IPS officer, Satish Kumar Mathur, who is the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Saharanpur, allegedly made the callous remark when Shaukeen Mohammed approached the police to track down his daughter saying he believed she had eloped.

The high ranking officer was caught on camera during a police inspection allegedly saying that if his own sister ever eloped he would kill her or commit suicide for the sake of honour.

The callous remark of the UP cop has ignited controversy with the National Women Commission (NWC) chief Mamata Sharma demanding stringent action against the cop.

“We will write to the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister regarding the incident and will demand strict action against the cop for promoting the brutal practice,” said Sharma.

Meanwhile, expressing strong disagreement from DIG's comment, ADG Law and Order said, "Mathur's comment are really unfortunate. Such comments on sensitive issue like honour killing are absolutely wrong as well as illegal."
