Despite the defeat, MI remains on top of the table, whereas the victory took Kings XI to ninth spot.

The decision to put in Kings XI to bat backfired on MI captain Sachin Tendulkar.  After the dismissal of Paul Valthaty and Adam Gilchrist, Kings XI batsmen Dinesh Karthik and Shaun Marsh took the attack to MI bowlers.

Although Munaf Patel took five wickets in his four over spell, the Kings XI batsmen scored a massive 163 runs on board. Highest wicket taker of the tournament, Lasith Malinga picked up two wickets.

For Kings XI, Shaun Marsh top scored with 43 runs which included five hits to the boundary. Karthik made an important contribution of 31 runs off 24 balls which included four boundaries and a six. Gilchrist chipped in with 28 runs, whereas Valthaty made 14 runs.

In reply, MI batsmen looked out of sorts. Half of their batting side was back in the pavilion on a score of 54 runs. Leading batsmen of MI including Tendulkar, Symonds, Blizzard and Rohit Sharma were back in pavilion before the team could score 50 runs.

The remaining five batsmen too did not spend much time at the centre as the entire team was bundled out at 87 runs in 12.5 overs. Spinner Bhargava Bhatt picked up four wickets in his spell.

Praveen Kumar took the important wickets of Sachin Tendulkar and Aiden Blizzard to give the early breakthrough to his side. While all the batsmen of MI collapsed, Pollard top-scored with 17 runs. Apart from him only Blizzard, A Rayudu and Harbhajan Singh managed to get to double figures.

MI fielding which has set high standards in the tournament was disappointing on Tuesday. Few catches were dropped by the MI fielders which gave the Kings XI batsmen to take the score past 150 runs. While few catches were dropped, Pollard took two blinders to dismiss Shaun Marsh and Ryan Harris.

Earlier in the day, MI captain won the toss and has decided to bowl first. Tendulkar opined that the Mohali pitch will assist the seamers and help them restrict Kings XI to a low score
