Dehradun: Sharpening the attack on UPA-led Central Government, Team Anna member and former IPS officer Kiran Bedi said that political gimmicks played by the government cannot split the team and its mission against corruption.

Talking to media persons at a school event here on Tuesday, Bedi said if the Jan Lokpal Bill is not tabled in the Winter Session of the Parliament, Anna Hazare will launch a campaign against the Congress in the five states going to polls. Moreover, she also indicated another fast by Anna in case the bill is not passed.

Applauding the introduction of Lokayukta Bill in Uttarakhand Assembly, Bedi said “Anna’s movement has started showing results and the move is indeed a crucial step towards establishing a strong anti-corruption ombudsman.”

Bedi said the Lokayukta Bill is very much similar to the Civil Society’s version of Jan Lokpal Bill.

She said that Jan Lokpal Bill is the need of the hour for the country and the recent anti-graft crusade has also established that the general public wants to uproot corruption from the system.

Responding to a question on putting the Prime Minister under the ambit of Lokpal, she said, “It is really important for an effective Lokpal that the PM is under its ambit.” Mentioning the names of former Prime Ministers Rajiv Gandhi and Narsimha Rao, she said their names have time and again been raised in Bofors and JMM scams. Hence, there is no harm in bringing PM in Lokpal purview in a bid to maintain transparency.

She, however, avoided comment on the air ticket scandal raised against her.
