Kochi: Union Urban Development Minister Kamal Nath on Tuesday said the Kochi Metro Rail Project, the foundation stone for which was laid by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh last year, would be completed within three years.

    
At a meeting here, attended by Kamal Nath, Kerala Chief Minister Oomen Chandy, officials of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL), the terms of engagement between DMRC and KMRL was finalised.
    
E Sreedharan would continue as Principal Consultant with Kochi as his base, Kamal Nath later told reporters.
    
"A detailed agreement would be made within a month. The project would be completed in three years time and a detailed agreement would be made within a month," he said.
    
The Kochi Metro Project will be implemented with DMRC as technical consultants and tender process would be carried out by DMRC under its supervision, he said.
    
This was the first time that the Centre has allowed DMRC to go out of Delhi region. Chandy also assured that the project would be completed in three years time.
