Hazaribagh: Power generation from the first 500 MW unit of the Damodar Valley Corporation’s Koderma Thermal Power Station was started at Banjhedih in the neighbouring Koderma district.

"The first 500 MW unit of the proposed 1000 MW plant was switched on at 7.15 pm yesterday and power supply was distributed on trial basis to the Biharshariff grid and the
DVC grid," Chief Engineer of the Plant B P Mandal told reporters.

The foundation stone of the plant was laid on March 1, 2008 by the then Union Minister for Power Sushil Kumar Shinde.

The plant would begin its commercial operation declaration (COD) next month after the total 500 units distribution would be supplied through the national grid, Mandal said.

A total of six rack of coal was brought from Dhanbad through the newly laid railway track from Hirodih station of the East Central Railway on the Dhanbad-Gaya section ahead of the commissioning of the first unit, he said.

The second 500 MW unit of the plant was nearing completion and would soon be commissioned.
