Kolkata: A fire broke out at a Calcutta State Transport Corporation depot on Sunday destroying important records and bills, with the Tranport Minister saying he suspected sabotage.

The fire broke out at 11:30 am at the record room of STC's Belgharia depot and was brought under control within two hours by four fire tenders, fire brigade sources said.

No one was injured, the sources said.

Transport Minister Madan Mitra said he suspected sabotage and immediately ordered an inquiry by a three member committee headed by a deputy general manager of CSTC.

"I strongly suspect there has been sabotage as very important records were kept there," Mitra said.

"There was a CPI(M) office in the room and the records section was separated from it by only a plyboard partition. This is illegal and I have ordered immediate dismantling of the party office from there," Mitra said.

The minister said that the inquiry committee has been asked to submit its report by Thursday.
